We caught up with the photographer and contributing style editor to Vogue Australia on the cobbled streets of LFW

Fashion month is about seeing new pieces and trends come down the runway and generally looking ahead to the next season, but for many editors and influencers, it’s also about being seen and photographed on the street.

Australia-born, London-based Candice Lake started her career in fashion as a model, appearing in campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Versace and walking the runway at Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Chanel. Today, the photographer and blogger is usually on the other side of the lens, capturing street style outside the shows while cementing her own status as a style icon. Her uniform of choice? “When I’m shooting, sneakers are a must,” she says. “It’s important to look chic so I love statement sneakers and flat boots that go with everything.”

Candice is a flats girl through and through – fashion month or not. “Unless an occasion arises that insists on heels, I gravitate towards flats,” she admits. “I try to walk everywhere if I can. London is such a magical city and so much of its essence is found walking the streets,” she continues. “I’m [also] constantly running around after my children. We walk to and from school, about 30 minutes each way, and I walk most afternoons through Hampstead Heath. I like to move and am really active in my daily life – I probably do about 7,500 to 10,000 steps a day.”

FitFlop sneakers are perfect for Candice, who wore two variations of the Überknit sock boot to London Fashion Week: in optic white, with a metallic, pale blue skirt and matching bag, and in the braided black version, with a printed maxi and Glen check coat. “I am really drawn to wearing luxe suits and dresses with statement sneakers, printed dresses with a high-top, and evening gowns with trainers and a bomber jacket,” says Candice. “Shoes are my weakness, [and] the sign of a great shoe is if you want to wear them time and time again, with every outfit you own,” she continues. “When I fall in love with a pair, I tend to wear them to death, wearing them daily with every outfit.”

“These sneakers literally feel like a hug for my feet,” she adds. And during all the hustle and bustle of fashion month, there’s definitely a lot to love about that.
